About Author

Mr. A. Balasubramanian is the Managing Director & CEO of Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. A stalwart of the mutual fund industry, he brings with him over three decades of rich experience.

He has been associated with the organisation since 1994. Prior to assuming the role of CEO in 2009, Mr. Balasubramanian served as the Chief Investment Officer from 2006 to 2009. As Managing Director & CEO, Mr. Balasubramanian oversees over Rs. 3.60 lakh crore in Assets Under Management at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC. Before joining ABSLAMC in the year 1994, he worked with GIC Mutual Fund, Can Bank Financial Services and Pandit & Co. between 1989 and 1994.

Mr. Balasubramanian was awarded CEO of the Year title by Asia Asset Management in 2018 and 2020. He has been awarded the Chairman’s Individual Award by the Aditya Birla Group for being an Outstanding Leader in 2015 and for being a Leader of Leaders in 2018.

Mr. Balasubramanian is closely associated with key industry bodies. He has been on the board of AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds in India) since 2009 and was the Vice Chairman of AMFI in 2015-2016. He has served as the Chairman of AMFI for two terms, from 2016-2018, and was reappointed for the period of 2021 – 2023. Mr. Balasubramanian is the Chairman of the AMFI Equity CIOs’ Committee. He is also an esteemed member of the Fund Management Advisory Committee of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). He has been the Governor on Board of Governors at the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), an institute affiliated with SEBI, from 2018 to 2024. He was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the SEBI Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF) for a period of five years 2019 – 2024. He has been appointed on 14th October 2024, as an Additional Director on the Board of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry for the year 2024-25.

He has completed advanced management programs from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Harvard Business School. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in science (mathematics) and a master’s degree in business administration from the GlobalNxt University.

Mr. Balasubramanian is involved with philanthropic work through various charitable organisations. He is one of the active members at the Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care. He is also associated with the Sathya Sai University, Gulbarga that imparts knowledge on Human Excellence to students during their higher education. He also promotes Indian arts and village traditional culture.

Mr. Mahesh Patil is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. As the CIO Mahesh oversees over INR 3 lakh crore of assets under management. With over thirty years of rich experience in fund and investment management, Mahesh leads the entire investment team, comprising fund managers and analysts. He personally manages funds such as Aditya Birla Sun Life Frontline Equity, Aditya Birla Sun Life Multi-Cap Fund, and Aditya Birla Sun Life Focused Equity.

Mahesh has been with Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC since October 2005. Mahesh was awarded the India CIO of the Year, Equity by Asia Asset Management in 2016 and 2018. He has been awarded Chairman’s Individual Award by The Aditya Birla group for being an Accomplished Leader in 2015.

He has previously worked at CMC Limited, Tata Economic Consultancy Services, Parag Parikh Financial Advisory Services Limited, Motilal Oswal Securities Limited and at Reliance Infocom Limited.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Bombay and a Master’s degree in Management Studies from University of Bombay. He has also qualified the Chartered Financial Analysts examination from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI), Hyderabad.

Mr. Anil Shyam is the Head-Strategy at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. (ABSLAMC). He has over two decades of experience and has been associated with the organisation since October 2007.

He has previously worked at AK Capital Services Limited, Cholamandalam AMC Limited, JM Financial Asset Management Private Limited and at ICICI Prudential AMC Limited.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in commerce and Master’s Degree in Finance & Control from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.

Mr. Sameer Narayan has over 25 years of experience in Indian Equity markets with significant alpha generation track record over longer time periods. He has been with the Company since July 2022 as Head - Alternate Investments Equity.

Prior to joining the Company, he has worked with organizations like Invesco Asset Management - India, Adani Advisory LLP, BNP Paribas Investment Partners, SSKI Securities Pvt. Ltd., Enam Securities Pvt. Ltd. and Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd. He has varied experience in managing mandates across growth and value strategies as well as buy side and sell side experience.

Sameer holds Master’s in Management Studies (MMS) from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai and B.E. degree with specialization in Production Engineering from KJ Somaiya college of Engineering, Mumbai.

Ms. Sunaina da Cunha s the Co-Head of Fixed Income at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. She has a rich experience of 20 years in fixed income fund management with an expertise in structuring bond solution and credit transactions. As Co-Head, Sunaina leads the overall credit portfolio of the AMC.

She has been a part of the Aditya Birla Group since 2004 having started as a Group Management Trainee in Aditya Birla Management Corporation Private Limited.

Sunaina is a CFA Charter Holder from the CFA Institute, Virginia, USA. She is also an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi.

Mr. Vinod Bhat is a Portfolio Manager and Equity Strategist at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited (ABSLAMC). Vinod comes with an overall experience of two decades with close to 15 years in the financial markets and investment banking space. He has been associated with ABSLAMC since July 2018.

Prior to joining ABSLAMC, he was the Vice President - Corporate Strategy and Business Development with Aditya Birla Management Corporation Pvt. Ltd. Previously he was an Investment Banker at Credit Suisse and Ocean Park Advisors in the USA.

Vinod is a CFA (USA) and has done his MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (USA). He holds an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (USA) and B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay.

Mr. Chanchal Khandelwal is a Fund Manager and Senior Analyst at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited (ABSLAMC). With an overall experience of more than 15 years, he has been a part of the Aditya Birla Group for 15 years, with nearly a decade with ABSLAMC. He was part of the Strategy and Finance team at Aditya Birla Group.

At ABSLAMC Chanchal is responsible for managing select Equity funds as per given mandate while focussing on supporting the entire equity fund management team in their respective mandates through effective sector research on areas allocated.

Chanchal has done his B.Com Honours from SRCC and is an MBA from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar.

Prior to joining ABSLAMC, he was the Head of Research at the Forex and Rates Desk at Edelweiss Securities Limited, covering global and Indian forex markets and economies. He was also associated with Quant Capital for 6 years as an Economist and covered the Indian and global economies and markets.

Bhupesh is an Engineering graduate from IIT-Kanpur and was All India Rank 1 in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).

Kaustubh brings with him 17 years of extensive investment experience having worked in various capacity of treasury finance, liquidity management and fund management. As Co-Head, Kaustubh leads the overall fixed income portfolio management.

Prior to joining ABSLAMC in 2009, Kaustubh worked with ICICI Bank for 5 year in the Asset Liability Management team.

Prior to joining ABSLAMC, he was the Deputy General Manager and Head of Financial Sector Ratings at CARE Ratings Ltd. for about 9 years. Prior to that, he was associated with Bank of America Continuum Solutions for more than a year as an Analyst covering the Global Technology sector.

She joined ABSLAMC in August 2017 as a Senior Credit Analyst – Fixed Income. She has been working closely with other Fund Managers and team members in the investment team.

Prior to joining ABSLAMC, she was a Deputy General Manager in IDBI Bank for 13 years wherein she handled project appraisal, credit evaluation and credit monitoring for Large and Mid-Corporates.

Ms. Amrita Panja is Head – Knowledge Centre at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited. She brings with her over 15 years of rich experience in communications, content strategy and curating corporate thought leadership. In her current role, she leads the ABSLAMC Knowledge Centre initiative, which is the thought leadership arm of the company.

In her earlier role with the ABSLAMC, Amrita was leading the Corporate Communications practice between December 2017 to February 2022. During this period, she conceptualised an award-winning content property named ‘WoMoneyKiBaat’ that put the spotlight on money conversations and investment among women. The campaign won a Bronze at the Maddies 2019 in the Gender Equity Category and the Grant Thornton Sabera Awards 2020 in Gender Equality category. She is winner of the PR & Corp Communications 40 under 40 title from Exchange4media and Young Achiever 2022 from the World Marketing Congress.

She began her career as a broadcast journalist. She has worked with leading news channels such as Times Now, CNN IBN (now CNN News18) and CNBCTV18 and has been at the forefront of reportage on some significant news breaks and large format features.

Mr. Abhishek Singhal is Head of Passives and Alternate Strategy at Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited (ABSLAMC).

He brings with him over 20 years of rich experience in asset management & investment advisory services across sales, business development, new geography development, products and strategy. He has been with the Aditya Birla Group since June 2001.

In his previous role at ABSLAMC, he was Head – Products, and was instrumental in creating and providing a strong platform of high-quality product solutions and communications for investors and distribution partners, as well as delivery of these solutions through various centres of the asset manager across geographies. In his earlier roles at ABSLAMC, he has been instrumental in developing Offshore Funds business in Dubai & Singapore as well as Institutional business in North India and establishing retail presence for the AMC in key centres in East India.

Abhishek completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with Honors and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
